MARTIN PARR, A PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY
For the first time in Austria, a major exhibition is dedicated to this artist's life's work (so far) and the show provides a profound insight into Parr's oeuvre. The British photographer became internationally famous with his series "the Last Resort" showing British beach holiday scenes in the mid-1980s.
In the series "Small World" (1989-2012), Martin Parr travelled to different tourist destinations and debunks the myth of the tourism industry by depicting its blatant excesses.
The series "Common Sense" (1994-1999) is composed of 300 photographs that constitute a huge wall collage exposing the unavoidable spirale of mass consumption and the trash entailed.
"Luxury" (1997-2011) pokes fun at the jet set and their conspicuous display of wealth.
Finally "Cakes and Balls" was created especially for Vienna.
